賛辞

Some of you will know of my like for the Japanese Saito V4PR, a small (9mm bore, 10mm stroke) single acting V4 piston valve marine engine.
Over the past year my friend and I have been working on replicating this engine, drawing it it up in Solidworks, machining it using the latest cnc machinery, and building jigs for various parts.

This has been a wonderful learning curve for me and the credit goes to my friend in this endeavor.

We decided to use the same materials; Stainless steel, brass and a very high quality phosphor bronze, but since we couldn't cast the engine block and cylinder heads as Saito did, we machined these,
copying the draft angles and then sand blast them to give a similar effect.

The three gaskets are .5mm gasket material, much better than the pvc  ones on the original.

The engine is about 10 grams heavier, as a result of using 2mm sheet for the rc lever (forward/reverse and throttle) and the valve links, rathere than the 1.6mm Saito used. I prefer the look of the these as they have square edges unlike the Saito ones which are pressed.

Where some fixings were blacked steel (which can rust) on the original, we have used stainless steel.

The engine is called 賛辞, which translates as 'Tribute'. This one will benefit from a little more running in, it has only been ran a couple of times, but we are very pleased with the result :D

Truly exquisite Miles. I have one too in the Opal and they are a joy. But this is a real jewel. Wonderful to see it in a model.
